filed under: Community Events, Living In Fountain Hills, Things To Do

Mouthwatering brats, smoked turkey legs, homemade sauerkraut, bavarian potato salad, apple strudel, sauerkraut salsa and a variety of German Warsteiner beers have all the makings of a great Oktoberfest that you definitely don’t want to miss this weekend in Fountain Hills. Turning five this year the Fountain Hills Oktoberfest celebration promises to deliver a great time for the entire family.

Besides all of the wonderful GermanĀ  cuisine, weather permitting, there will be a spectacular laser light show each evening at 8 pm, 9 pm and 10 pm illuminating the Festplatz and the Fountain. Playing someĀ  traditional oom pah pah and great polka music will be Die Echten Waldbaum, an Ocktoberfest band direct from Germany.

When the kids aren’t eating their chips and hot dogs, they will be entertained for free in the children’s area with inflatables. Chucky the Chicken once again promises to teach the popular chicken dance. Contests, oh yes, there’s the best dressed and the famous beer stein holding contest. And what would an Oktoberfest be without the popular Spikes sponsored Dachshund race You sure don’t want to miss that on Saturday at 5 pm.

Although there are other Oktoberfests to choose from this weekend, Fountain Hills is proud that our event has been created after the Munich traditions. The backdrop of our beautiful surroundings, Four Peaks, the Fountain sprouting up ever hour, and all the traditional celebrations and merrymaking promise to make it the premier Oktoberfest in the Valley.

Our Oktoberfest festivities are held at Fountain Park both Friday and Saturday evening, Sept. 28-29, from 5-10 pm. Admission is $5.00, children under 12 are free. Folks dressed in Lederhosen and Dirndls are free of charge. So don your Lederhosen and Dirndls, come and enjoy this wonderful 200 year old German tradition and celebration in Fountain Hills. I know you will not be disappointed.
