Fountain Hills Community Theater "The Producers"Saturday night Howard and I started out our “New York” style evening  at Fountain Hills Chinese restaurant, Chen’s Garden on Avenue of the Fountains .   Our dining menu consisted of sizzling rice soup, egg roll, pepper steak and sweet and sour chicken, oh yes a glass of pinot grigio and a margarita.  I know you’re scratching your head “margarita, Chinese restaurant, wierd”.  Hey what can I say, I’m a risk taker.  After a great meal evidenced by the fact that our plates were clean and there were not any left overs, we headed to the Fountain Hills Community Theater to see the final Saturday night performance of Mel Brook’s Musical “The Producers”.

We arrived about about ten minutes before curtain time. We were seated in seats B11 and B12 in the second row. Pretty good seats I thought for $25 a seat, although you should know there are no bad seats in the theater. Right away I saw there was a full house, not surprising as I knew they extended the performance schedule an extra week because of the great reviews the production was receiving.

Soon the lights dimmed and the recognizable background music “Springtime for Hitler” began and within minutes the curtain rose. From that moment, with the exception of the short intermission I was mesmerized by the talent, the stage settings, and the entire theatrical production. If I didn’t know that I was seated in this small intimate theater in Fountain Hills, margaritas aside, I would have thought  I was in a Broadway theater in New York. Of course the major difference would have been the price of the ticket, probably $150 a ticket in the big apple.

Although I am not a theater critic, I must call out the performances of  Scott Hyder (Max Bialystock), Michael Stewart (Leo Bloom), Morgan Ottersbach (Ulla Inga Hansen Benson), Terry Gadaire (Roger DeBris), Patrick Russo (Carmen Ghia) and Matt McDonald (Franz Liebkind). OMG they were awesome. You had me” tears in the eyes” laughing over and over again. And the ensemble, the great vocalists, the dancers, you were all wonderful. A standing ovation by showed our jubilation.

Of course, as is so true, the cast cannot put on a great performance without  the actual producers, directors, choreographers, music directors, stage hands, hair and makeup, lighting, set, sound and costume designers. Kudos to all of you, you did a great job.

In conclusion I want to say, I was a proud resident of Fountain Hills last night. The Fountain Hills Community Theater made me proud. How fortunate we are to have you in our community. Thank you for your time and your commitment to bring us great theater like “The Producers”.  You are all to be commended.
